Hell week, also known as pledge week or rush week, is a traditional initiation period for college fraternities and sororities. It is a week-long process during which students interested in joining a fraternity or sorority participate in a variety of activities and events designed to test their physical, mental, and emotional endurance.
During hell week, pledges may be required to perform tasks that are physically challenging, such as running long distances or doing push-ups. They may also be subjected to mental and emotional stress, such as sleep deprivation, humiliation, and hazing.
While some consider hell week to be a bonding experience for the pledges, others view it as a form of abuse. As a result, many universities and colleges have banned hazing and/or implemented strict guidelines for fraternity and sorority initiation rituals.
It's important for students to remember that while joining a fraternity or sorority can be a rewarding experience, they should never put their safety at risk or tolerate any form of abuse or hazing in the process.
